Portals are quite popular on PSP systems. They utilize the system’s internet browser to allow easy access to internet applications, such as mail clients and online messengers. The latest takes the design of Apple’s popular iPhone, and attempts to transplant it to the PSP. While it certainly looks sleek, the vertical alignment makes the system awkward. Still, easy to follow instructions and a great self-installer makes this one of the better portals to pursue.
Check it out here.

With E3 coming up this week, developers are already starting to showcase their work. Such is the case with SWAT: Target Liberty, as you can see above. In a lot of ways, the trailer looks like an awful lot like Killzone: Liberation, only with a heavier emphasis on squad tactics. That’s fine with us though, since Killzone: Liberation is still one of the best PSP games out there. The perspective also allows you to see what’s going on up ahead, and easily plan your next move. Some of the previous SWAT titles received heavy critical praise, let’s hope the same can happen for SWAT: Target Liberty when it’s released.

Every week, PSP Fanboy brings you new backgrounds to stylize your PSP. Remember, you can save these images directly to your PSP by accessing the site wireless at m.pspfanboy.com. We had a few issues with our Internet connection yesterday, and were unable to put up the explosion. We heard your cries for backgrounds though, and now that our web connection is as strong as a Spartan, we’re going to give you just what you want!
Backgrounds after the jump …
New for PSP: Get selected wallpapers delivered automatically to your PSP via our new RSS feed.
First up we have this super stylish Cowboy Bebop background. We never get sick of seeing Spike and the gang, so we’ll gladly rock this background.
Next we have a Resident Evil 2 background. Can you remember when Leon was still a rookie?
Even someone who isn’t a car person can marvel at the beauty of a Ferrari.
Ratatouille is definitely one of Pixar’s best movies. It’s surprising how inspiring a rodent chef can be.
Lastly, we have a Tony Hawk background. If you plan on doing aerial skateboarding stunts like him, just make sure you take your PSP out of your pocket.

Every week, PSP Fanboy gives you the release list of what’s coming out for the PSP worldwide. If a game is listed as coming out in a different country from where you live, don’t worry. Your PSP can play games from any region. While most of the gaming world pays attention to the new E3, a few brave companies have decided to still release games this week. It’s not a huge list, but there are a few promising titles coming out.
US Games
EU Games
Asian Games
Release dates may always change, so you may want to call before heading to your local game shop.

If you’ll pardon the rather heavy handed pun in the title, we can let you in on some choice information regarding Sony console sales in Japan. The week ending the 1st of July saw increased sales for the PS3, PS2 and PSP. We’ve collated all the interesting statistics into handy bullet points for you, so check them out below. All increases are compared to the week ending the 24th of June.
- PS2: 16,316 sold. An increase of 26%
- PSP: 38,305 sold. An increase of 15%
- PS3: 11,914 sold. An increase of 20%
The rise in PSP sales can no doubt be put down to the recent release of Monster Hunter Portable 2, the latest in a series which has been a huge hit in Japan. The latest in the series hit the top spot on the Japanese charts, beating Wii Sports and Pokemon Diamond/Pearl. We look forward to seeing how the game does in the coming weeks and whether it influences even more PSP sales. We’ll let you know.

Nothing, not even the mighty Wii Sports, could get close to the awesome sales of Monster Hunter Portable 2nd. Japanese sales for the first half of the year have been tallied up and surprisingly, this PSP game rose to the top of the list.
It should be comforting to publishers to see a PSP game do so well. Hopefully, this will encourage Japanese publishers to continue developing for the platform. The top three games for PSP this year so far include Monster Hunter, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops.

The PSP’s large screen has endowed it with a large library of digital comics to peruse on the system. Pocket Gamer has affectionately collected what they believe are the best comics for PSP. Best of all, most are free:
Also included in the list is the Metal Gear digital comic. (It’s the least free option amongst the current choices.) With six free places to grab comics from, your PSP can turn into a small compendium of digital illustrations.

The new E3 is just around the corner, and that means that publishers are sending out lists of their E3 slate. Such is the case with Namco Bandai. On the PSP front, we can look forward to seeing the fan favorite RPG Tales of the World: Radiant Mythology, the tennis champ Smash Court Tennis 3, and of course the knuckle headed ninja in Naruto: Ultimate Heroes. There may of course be a few surprises, or behind closed doors presentations, but those three games are certainly heavy hitters. Which of these titles are you most looking forward to seeing more on at E3?
